You get the good with the bad in all areas of your life. The ying and yang. Just like anyone else I have had my fair share of the bad, but I have also had some good. Like having my own website! It is a dream come true!

To have such a dreadful upbringing and to now start and share my stories with the world – in the hope that some good can come of it – well that’s what keeps this old girl going.
However, being open and sharing my stories with the world has opened another door for me…and I know what’s behind that door…behind that door are the Trolls and Haters.
Now I am a bit old school, a child of the seventies, we didn’t have a phone, we had a television and I think we had a computer. In thinking back, I suppose my thought was that a typewriter was what a computer was, or an old fashioned fax machine.
Remember the first mobile phones, fax machines and televisions?
Now getting back to the Trolls and Haters, I liken them to the schoolyard bullies. The oh-so cool kids, the mean kids, the ones who were only too happy to tear you down whether you had anything to do with them or not. You couldn’t avoid them and they just had to stick their teeth into you. They loved all the attention and got a sick thrill out of making our lives a misery.
Trolls and online haters are like the terminators of the ‘world wide web’. They hide behind their computer screens feeling bullet proof and ten feet tall. They feel like a super hero, all the while spreading their hate and ridicule with every tap of their keyboard.
The anger and nastiness they unload on you has pretty much nothing to do with you. In reality it is often mirroring a fault or flaw they see in their own self image. This tirade on you makes them feel powerful, and the more you respond to them, the better they like it.
Trolls and haters always go for (what they think is) the weaker individual. Sound familiar? They are generally anti-social and hate everyone and everything that doesn’t conform to their way of thinking.
They have no regard for other people’s feelings or compassion, nor do they stop to think that their hurtful message is leaving a permanent footprint in the digital world.
Now in my research for this article I spent a good deal of time thinking about Trolls and Haters. Being a person who has suffered mental illness most of her life, I feel it’s safe to say that Haters and Trolls have their own set of problems but don’t have the courage to face them. So they empower themselves by dragging the life out of somebody else.
In my research I discovered that most Haters and Trolls, spend at least one hour every single day attacking and dehumanizing some poor bugger on the Internet. Can you imagine doing that day after day? Of course you can’t. What a waste of time and energy, not to mention the effort it takes to stay angry.
I think Haters and Trolls enjoy being some kind of Internet slayer. They play with real peoples lives and real emotions…and guess what? There are no consequences for them. We can’t stop them doing whatever they like and saying whatever they like.
So in my attempt to connect with the world and share my stories, I have left myself wide open to the Haters and Trolls of this world.
However, I have decided that I will not respond to their messages. I will not feed into their twisted view on reality. I won’t acknowledge their comments and very soon I hope they will move on. I am not going to allow their ego stroking upset me!
Never in my life have I bullied anybody or sent a negative comment. If I don’t like what I see I move on. I don’t have the energy to play games and I certainly don’t need to take pot-shots at someone else to make myself feel good.
So here I am with my stories big and bold and proud of the woman I am today. I know one thing for sure, my words are sent to you with love, respect and kindness.
Be kind to yourself,
Big Fat Dee
